(CELEBRITY) Emmy Award-winning actress Katherine Heigl recently announced her newest venture called Just One, which features a line of specially designed pet products. A portion of each sale will support animal welfare efforts and programs. “Animal cruelty and unnecessary euthanasia are a major problem in our country,” said Heigl on her website. “Just One believes that if each one of us does one thing to help this problem we will together solve it.” Each time someone purchases a Just One product, a percentage of that purchase will go towards spaying and neutering pets, helping sheltered animals find loving homes, and putting an end to the euthanizing of nearly 10,000 companion animals a day. Katherine Heigl isn’t just a successful actress, she is also an accomplished wife, mother and animal activist. Today, she appeared on “Good Morning America,” where she discussed the launch of her new pet product line, and how she gives back to animals.
Heigl’s new pet line, Just One, is not your typical product collection. It makes sure to give back to animals. As she told GMA, she hopes to make a difference in shelters, especially in California, as these systems are “really, really bad at this point.”
Just One was founded by Heigl and her mother, Nancy, about a year ago. Products include leashes, dishes, pet bag dispensers, pooper scoopers, collars. Heigl is very fond of the collars.
She says they “make a statement,” similar to the Livestrong bracelets, as they have “Just One” printed on them. One day, Heigl hopes people will look at these collars and immediately recognize the cause.
In addition to donating a portion of the profits to homeless companion animals across the country, Just One also raises awareness for Heigl’s foundation, The Jason Debus Hiegl Foundation.
Founded in memory of her brother, the organization benefits rescues, animal welfare and putting a stop to animal cruelty and abuse.
“There are so many animals coming in and so many getting euthanized and killed everyday, we wanted to start to solve the problem – we believe it’s a solvable problem – but we were running out of money, so we needed to come up with something to generate some funds for the foundation, and this [Just One] is sort of what we came up with.”
Heigl also encourages everyone to fix their pets. You can get your pets spayed or neutered with no questions asked. You don’t even need paperwork. This is “just one” way to prevent the killing and abandoning of animals.
According to Heigl, in California City, the intake of pets in shelters has decreased by 14 percent. She hopes to improve that number.
Her work is wonderful and never stops, especially at home; after all she does have seven dogs, three cats and two daughters. I don’t think she will stop her work with animals anytime soon.
