(ANIMAL WELFARE) CONGO — Tens of thousands of elephants are being slaughtered annually for their ivory tusks. The increase demand for ivory has made elephant’s tusks worth more than 10 times the average annual income in most African countries. Africa’s infamous armed groups are poaching elephants to fund their never-ending conflicts. Impoverished villagers and subsistence hunters are killing elephants to negligibly enhance their quality of life. The majority of the ivory gets shipped to China where there is a thriving unregulated market for ivory. Is owning an ivory trinket worth an animal’s life? — Global Animal
