Ellen DeGeneres has been a vegan since 2008 and now she’s partnered up with her wife, Portia de Rossi, singer Chrissie Hynde, and producer Steve Bing, to open a vegan restaurant. The cruelty free menu will be designed by chef Tal Ronner, who also catered Ellen’s wedding.
DeGeneres is a known advocate for the meat free lifestyle, and has launched her own blog, Going Vegan with Ellen, with recipes and tips. Her wife Portia de Rossi went vegan when she realized farm animals are just as valuable and intelligent as animals like cats and dogs. In an interview with O magazine, De Rossi said: “Before that morning on the farm, I ranked an animal’s value based on how “human” it was. Now I don’t judge other beings that way—every animal has its own intelligence and sensitivities. They’re all lovely, worthwhile, and deserving of our respect.”
The new restaurant will reportedly open in San Fernando Valley, California. Congratulations to Ellen and partners for taking the animal friendly route! We can’t wait to try out this joint.
