(SEA TURTLES) CALIFORNIA – The U.S. Government’s National Marine Fisheries Service has until Nov. 15 to finalize its plan for designating a large protection zone off the Pacific coast for endangered leatherback sea turtles.

The service was sued after missing a previous deadline to allocate 70,600 square miles off the western coast as a safe zone for the sea turtles.

The turtles migrate from Indonesia to the U.S. to lay eggs, and the protection zone is meant to safeguard these routes as well as their food supply.
