In Global Animal’s exclusive 3-part interview with Wietse van der Werf, the co-founder of the Europe-based conservation organization, The Black Fish, van der Werf describes how the dolphin captivity trade in Europe and beyond is inextricably connected to the annual slaughter in Taiji and the ghastly conditions for imprisoned dolphins at marine parks (dolphinariums) worldwide.  In this segment of the interview van der Werf describes what happened that stormy night when The Black Fish staged a night dive to cut the nets holding dolphins captive.
Wietse van der Werf advocates that the public boycot marine parks like Sea World and resorts that offer ‘Swim With Dolphins’ activities in order to stop the cruel captivity trade. He also discusses how their tactics differ from other organizations, like Sea Shepherd and Ric O’Barry’s Save Japan Dolphins, and why The Black Fish believe direct action is necessary.
