(CUTE ANIMAL VIDEO/RABBITS/PETS) When Bertha the bunny lost the ability to walk after her hips collapsed in May, vets advised it was best to put her down. But her devoted mom Melanie James, who adopted Bertha as a baby four years ago, knew her beloved bunny’s story wasn’t over yet, so she decided to create a wheelchair specially-designed to fit the paralyzed rabbit.

James said, “When the vet said the nicest thing to do would be to put her down, she still had so much life…I’ve actually seen dogs in wheelchairs and I thought ‘if it works for a dog, then why not a rabbit?'”

Now, Bertha is cruising around just like before–but the good news doesn’t end there! Bertha’s muscles appear to be strengthening, and she has improved so much that Jones hopes she might eventually outgrow her need for the wheelchair altogether.

“Hopefully, within the not-too-distant future, she will regain mobility herself,” James said. “The vet and myself can’t believe how well the chair’s actually working.” — Global Animal
