(PETS/DOGS) Obesity is an issue affecting many Americans these days and it appears dogs are no exception. Over half of dogs in the U.S. are overweight and are therefore subject to the same diseases that affect overweight and obese humans, including diabetes and high blood pressure. As with humans, it is not enough to simply change one’s diet but an increase in exercise is also necessary to shed the pounds. Exercise spas and fitness programs are sprouting up around the country to tackle the problem but experts say it is key for pet parents to provide their dogs with healthy meals and daily exercise to maintain a healthy weight.
