Whale & Dolphin Watch is a grass roots organization committed to bringing awareness to the public of the U.S. Navy‘s history of killing and harassing thousands of whales and dolphins through their underwater sonar and sound programs. They are fighting to “stop or call attention to those that kill and pollute until new technology is embraced and in a place to protect all sea life.”
Want the facts? Plain and simple, low-frequency Activesonar signals destroy a whale’s ability to navigate. Since they move through sound, vibration, and instinct, it can lead to an early and painful death. Sound penetrates an animal’s body once immersed in water, and this effect can cause tissue rupture and hemorrhage. There are newer, harmless technologies available at their disposal that need to be utilized in order to protect the creatures of the sea.
The Whale & Dolphin Watch team claims, “Our mission is to find alternatives that will allow humans and all life forms on Earth to live harmoniously together. We honor all who have served in the United States Military and our desire is to work together to find solutions.”
We’re asking you to take action and sign the petition to protect whales and dolphins worldwide from the U.S. Navy’s underwater sonar sound program. Unless we do something now, our ocean friends will continue to be harmed for the next five years.
About 600,000 animal lovers have signed the petitions and more than two million others have read about this issue. Along with your signature, those in the California area can attend the California Coastal Commission hearing and everyone can listen to the radio interview on this topic. Details for both events here.
