LIST OF SAFETY RECALL DOG JERKY TREATS & PET CHEWS FROM CHINA

(PET FOOD RECALL) The FDA’s investigation into chicken, duck, and sweet potatoes jerky treats and chew treats, including rawhide, for dogs from China has yet to give consumers an answer to why their dogs are sick.  Pet food brands such as Purina, Publix, Del Monte, Costco and other brands of pet treats are voluntarily recalling their treats, though the FDA still doesn’t know why the dog treats are causing pets to get sick. The government agency has reportedly received more than 3,600 complaints of dogs and cats becoming sick, particularly gastrointestinal illnesses. The FDA has issued a warning for all pet food treats made in China. But pet guardians should be aware that pet food manufacturers are not required to list the country of origin for each ingredient used in their pet products.

Here’s Global Animal’s list of recent jerky treat recalls and pet foods, by brand, recalled by the FDA in 2013. Please consider sharing this information with family and friends who also have pets.

My 12 year old black lab Cinder began to have difficulty breathing, hacking, and became very lethargic. The vet could not tell me what was wrong with him, but recommended I put him down to spare his obvious suffering. he was old and had some minor joint issues, but he went downhill very fast and it pained me to see him suffer so.

My 10 year old Boston Terrier Sara experienced the same symptoms. Very labored, difficult breathing and hacking, like she had something stuck in her throat and had to use her belly muscles to breathe. My wife found her lifeless body out in the yard not two weeks after I put Cinder to sleep.

A third younger dog also had the same symptoms but recovered after some time of not getting the treats. Coincidentally, I stopped giving them the treats because, lucky for them, the treats were on top of the refrigerator and got pushed back out of sight so I forgot they were there.

And now that I think about it, how odd that the last time I noticed the duck treats at Costco, there were “Made in the USA” labels all over them. Why? Because they KNEW something was up with the Chinese product. Otherwise why the over-the-top made in USA labels???
