(PETS/CATS AND DOGS) Today is World Spay Day—a day meant to shine a light on the positives of spaying and neutering your pets.
Spaying/neutering your pet can help save his or her life, as typically spayed/neutered animals live a healthier and longer life. World Spay Day gives communities of animal lovers a unique opportunity to save thousands of animals.
Typically, stray cats and dogs who are not spayed or neutered will be put down in a local shelter. By participating in World Spay Day, communities are helping lower the rate of pet euthanasia.

Below are eight paw-sitive reasons to spay/neuter your pet:

- Spayed and neutered animals tend to be more affectionate and calmer.
- Spaying an animal gets rid of their heat cycle, which means it also gets rid of the bleeding, nervous behaviors, and crying that comes with the heat cycle.
- Pets should be spayed or neutered at young ages, at least 6 months old for a male and before the female’s first heat cycle.
- Neutering and spaying your animals can help reduce the incidence of some of the more common types of cancers.
- 78 percent of pet dogs and 88 percent of pet cats are spayed or neutered.
- The cost of spaying/neutering your pet is less expensive than raising a litter of kittens or puppies for a full year.
- Spaying/neutering does NOT make your pet fat. Lack of exercise and overeating causing pet obesity.
- Spaying/neutering are the most common surgeries performed on animals. With minimal home care your pets will be back to normal in a couple of days.
