(NATIONAL PIG DAY/PIGS) Today, March 1 is National Pig Day! What better way to celebrate than with the heartwarming rescue story of Lucy the lucky pig?
After being abandoned in a field at just one-week-old, Lucy the Red Wattle pig was taken in by Jameson Animal Rescue Ranch (JARR), where she was nursed back to health with the help of her foster parent, Erica Rushing from Flatbroke Farms. Lucy was eventually placed in a forever home at farm animal sanctuary Animal Place, and paired with a perfect pen-mate, Bert.
Lucky in life and in love, Lucy quickly fell in love with Bert, who had yet to bond with the other pigs on the farm until meeting Lucy. As it turns out, he just couldn’t resist this gorgeous girl, and the two have developed a lifelong love connection where they spend their days playing, eating, and snuggling together.
Watch an extended video of Lucy and Bert below.
While Lucy is one lucky pig, many aren’t so fortunate. Pigs are incredibly intelligent beings, yet they can suffer immensely from inhumane treatment at factory farms, ultimately resulting in their slaughter.
