(PETS/NATIONAL SPAY DAY) Today marks World Spay Day, a day dedicated towards encouraging the public to spay and neuter their pets.

Established by the Humane Society of the United States, Humane Society International (HSI), and the Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association (HSVMA), National Spay Day spotlights the power of affordable and accessible spay-neuter services.

Bring along treats to make your pet's trip to the vet more enjoyable.

Not only does spaying and neutering pets save the lives of feral cats and stray dogs who might otherwise be euthanized in shelters or killed on the streets, but sterilizing house pets also allows animal shelters and rescues to better provide for homeless animals in need.

“When people spay and neuter their pets it leads to fewer unwanted litters ending up here in the shelter, which gives us more time and space to be able to take care of the animals that are at the shelter,” says Callista Pearson of Salt Lake County Animal Services.

Spaying and neutering pets also curbs bad behavior and health problems related to sexual activity. What’s more, spaying/neutering licensing fees are typically lower in most cities.

There are many life-saving benefits of spaying or neutering pets, so don’t wait to take action! Visit the HSUS resources below and make every day World Spay Day!
