One inquisitive omnivore’s journey towards healthier and more compassionate eating…
(MEATLESS/VEGETARIAN/VEGAN) I definitely have a sweet tooth. Cakes, donuts, cookies—especially chocolate chip! Add a tall glass of cold milk, and I’m in heaven.
I try not to indulge too often, so when I do I want to make it count. After all, if I’m having all that sugar it better be worth it.
I had always heard vegan deserts tasted like cardboard. I even tried a vegan chocolate chip cookie a few years back and wasn’t very impressed.
My vegan friends kept telling me they’ve come a long way since then, but not until I smelled the enticing aroma coming from Whole Foods’ bakery did I decide to give them another try. I sampled a glazed donut, peanut butter cookie, and, of course, a chocolate chip one.
The verdict? They were all pretty good. I actually didn’t even notice any difference in the vegan peanut butter cookies compared to ones made with eggs and butter. The donut was also very tasty, though a little drier than ones I’ve eaten in the past.
I did have an issue with the chocolate chip cookies though. They tasted fine, but definitely not as good as the “real deal.” That said, maybe it’s just Whole Foods’ cookies aren’t as good, so I’m willing to keep an open mind.
If you know of any chocolate chip cookies that would put Grandma’s to shame, please share – – I’d love to try them for myself with a tall glass of cold soy milk!
