Movie Review: “Maleficent” Casts Spell On Audiences

(MOVIE REVIEW) Since the first sneak peak of Maleficent back in November 2013, audiences everywhere have eagerly awaited Angelina Jolie’s mysterious portrayal of one of Disney's most iconic villains. Helmed by debut director Robert Stromberg, Maleficent presents an interesting take on an old story as it focuses almost entirely on The Sleeping Beauty antagonist. Elle Fanning (younger sister of Dakota Fanning) plays the role of Princess Aurora in this modern adaptation, starring alongside Imelda Staunton of Harry Potter, Juno Temple of The Dark Knight Rises, and actor Sharlto Copley of District 9. — Global Animal

Rhino Horn Smuggling Ringleader Trampled In Court

(RHINOS/IVORY TRADE) The leader of an international crime ring accused of trading ivory rhinoceros horns was sentenced to nearly six years in prison earlier this week. Back in December, ringleader Zhifei Li pled guilty to smuggling millions of dollars worth of illegal rhino horns to his home in China. What do you think? Was his punishment sufficient? Lab Chimps See Sun For First Time In Award-Winning Video

(ANIMAL TESTING/LAB CHIMPANZEES) An emotional video produced by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), entitled "Chimps: A New Life, Retirement," was recently named the Telly Award's "People's Silver Winner" for creative distinction. The Telly Awards are highly competitive, and less than 10 percent of more than 12,000 videos submitted receive the Silver Telly, the highest honor. By partnering with YouTube, the Telly Awards allow the people and a panel of judges to determine which entries will receive the award. This year, the HSUS video was chosen as one of the select few. — Global Animal

SeaWorld’s Lies Sink To New Low

(SEAWORLD/CAPTIVE ORCAS) SeaWorld is being accused of distorting orca whale research conducted by Dr. Ingrid Visser, a marine mammal scientist who spent time researching the reasons behind collapsed dorsal fins in wild orcas. In order to defend their dwindling reputation, SeaWorld reportedly used only half of Visser's data to dupe the public into thinking collapsed dorsal fins are a normal occurrence in killer whales, when in fact dorsal fin collapse happens in less than one percent of wild orcas. Continue reading and watch the video clips below to learn more about how SeaWorld is distorting and misrepresenting scientific evidence and lying to the public. — Global Animal
