(ANIMAL RESCUE/DOG PICTURES) Montreal citizens found what they originally thought was a pile of garbage on the side of the road. But upon further inspection, this “pile of trash” was actually a stray dog.

His rescuers thought at first he was a discarded toy or even a piece of garbage – but on closer inspection they realized it was a little Cavalier King Charles having a seriously ruff time of it. Found roaming the streets of Montreal last week, the little mut’s coat had grown so thick and caked in filth that he was almost unrecognizable as a pedigree dog. Picked up by the Quebec Society for the Protection of Animals and given a bath and a very close shave, the dog was transformed from hobo to regal in a matter of moments.

His rescuers estimated that more than 50-percent of the decrepit animal they were staring at was due to the size of his fur and cutting it off proved to be more difficult than they first imagined.
The poor dog was frightened by the razor – presumably after a life of terrible neglect that had seen him thrown out onto the streets of Quebec’s largest city.
After his long-overdue beauty treatment the dog was left to sleep off the stressful haircut – changed from the dog that one passer-by assumed was a pile of trash.
