(ANIMAL PICTURES/DOG RESCUE) Boston firefighter Sean P. Coyle became a national hero when he saved Sylivie, a 13-year old Siberian Husky, from drowning.

Sylvie was playing with her guardian when she ran over an ice patch on Boston’s Pleasure Bay. Coyle put on a safety suit and grabbed his rescue basket to save Sylvie from the freezing waters.

The Boston Herald reports that while trying to rescue Sylive, Coyle himself fell into the frigid waters.

“If the ice breaks and this goes south, I’m in this,” Coyle explained. “I’m not going to let her drown.”

Thanks to Coyle and his bravery, Sylvie is now safe and with her family.
