UPDATE: The TODAY Show was especially adorable this week when a blind Golden Retriever, Ray Charles, took home the first ever Pet of the Year “Orangey” at the show’s inaugural Orange Room Awards. Celebrating the year’s best viral videos, the TODAY Show invited Charles on set to accept his award. Popular on both Facebook and YouTube, the one-year-old puppy took off when the dog’s companion, Andrew Fales, created a Facebook page dedicated to Charles—eventually accumulating over 100,000 ‘likes.’ Charles’ competition was stiff, going up against the likes of an adorable pig in a wheelchair named Chris P. Bacon among others. You can watch Ray Charles accept his award on live television at the link below, courtesy of NBC’s TODAY Show.  — Global Animal

(PETS/ANIMAL VIDEOS) NBC’s TODAY Show is letting viral video aficionados choose the best online videos of the year by voting in their inaugural Orange Room Awards.

Yesterday, Matt Lauer, Al Roker, and the rest of the gang announced the list of nominees for the three prestigious categories. Voters can cast their preference for Most Memorable Viral Moment, Best Digital Dance-Off, and Pet of the Year, before 12:00pm EST on Friday.

Pet and animal lovers will take special interest in the Pet of the Year category, but should also note that Ylvis’ animal-friendly anthem, “The Fox (What Does the Fox Say?)”, is up against the famed “Harlem Shake” for the Best Digital Dance-Off award.

The winners of each award will be announced one at a time next week, live on the TODAY show, from Tuesday, December 10 through Thursday, December 12.
