Much like her tongue-filled, twerking performance at the MTV Video Music Awards last month, Miley Cyrus’ new video for her latest single, “Wrecking Ball,” is shattering records and unsurprisingly earning a great deal of backlash. Her fall from tween “It girl” has become so controversial this past year that the once Hannah Montana star is very quickly losing her reputability and is largely no longer considered to be a positive role model for today’s youth.

Yet despite the criticism, Miley’s achy-breaky heart seems to be in the right place. The singer-actress has proven to be a devoted animal lover and advocate for homeless dogs by promoting pet adoption and posting a multitude of “selfies” with her newly adopted pups to Twitter—hopefully inspiring others to do the same.
