UPDATE: Good news! After being arrested last month for protesting the unethical experimentation on cats at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, James Cromwell will not be facing criminal charges for disorderly conduct after all. Instead, the actor and animal advocate was cited for noncriminal county ordinance violations for storming into a university board meeting and speaking out about the school’s cruel and inhumane practices. Academy Award nominee James Cromwell was arrested on Thursday at the University of Wisconsin for protesting the school’s experimentation on cats.
The Boardwalk Empire star entered a UW System Board of Regents board meeting along with PETA spokesman Jeremy Beckham and cried out, “This is not science! This is torture! Shame on you!”
Cromwell and Beckham were holding signs displaying a tabby named Double Trouble, one of the 30 cats the university experiments on each year, who endured grueling experiments and was killed after the experiment on her was proclaimed a failure.

PETA’s investigation into UW-Madison revealed disturbing taxpayer-funded experiments on cats. The experiments called “sound localization studies” include cats having holes drilled into their skulls, electrodes implanted in their brains, and steel coils inserted in their eyes.
The University claims the studies are vital for people who are deaf, but time and time again it has been proven that testing on animals does not yield satisfactory results.
James Cromwell and Jeremy Beckham were arrested by police and are expected to be charged with disorderly conduct.
Please let UW’s Board of Regents know that you want more advanced and humane research methods implemented.
