(DOG BREEDERS) The American Kennel Club’s (AKC) reputability has been in question for quite some time now. Last year, the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) released a report accusing the AKC of allowing big commercial breeders to pass inspection even when their animals are kept in horrendous conditions like those found at puppy mills. Now, a Washington state couple—described as “seemingly the perfect people for raising and selling purebreds”—have been charged with animal cruelty after their premises were raided for raising their dogs in unbearable conditions. Despite living conditions that have been compared to a scene from Silence of the Lambs, the breeders were shockingly AKC registered and approved. The AKC is an organization that is supposed to protect dogs, but continuously fails to do its job. It’s time the AKC steps up and stops letting animal cruelty go unnoticed.
