Olympics Controversy Over Use Of Live Animals

According to the Slumdog Millionaire director, the three-hour spectacle is inspired by a speech from Shakespeare's The Tempest. According to animal rights groups, not only would the show be traumatic and stressful to the animals, it may also get the Olympics organizing committee prosecuted under the 2006 Animal Welfare Act. Michael Jackson’s Tiger Dies Of Lung Cancer

(CELEBRITY PETS) CALIFORNIA — Thriller, Michael Jackson's tiger while he was living at Neverland ranch, passed away of lung cancer on Wednesday. After Jackson left Neverland, the 13-year-old tiger went to actress Tipi Hedren's wildlife preserve in California. While we don't condone owning exotic animals, especially endangered ones, it's good that Thiller was able to spend her last years in a sanctuary. — Global Animal

Day At L.A. Zoo Turns Tragic

(ANIMAL NEWS) LOS ANGELES — Visitors at the Los Angeles County Zoo witnessed a fatal attack on a baby chimp by an adult male chimp Tuesday. The 3-month-old chimp was the first to be born at the zoo in thirteen years. In the wild, alpha male chimps are known to kill infants for territorial reasons, especially if the baby is not his. However, in captivity extra precautions should be set in place to insure animal infant safety. Uggie: Forever A Hollywood Star

(CELEBRITY PETS) LOS ANGELES — Today was a big day for Uggie, the Jack Russell terrier who starred in the Oscar-winning movie The Artist. Uggie is the first dog to have his paw prints cast in cement at Gruaman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. The newly retired Uggie wants to encourage us all to adopt pets. “He’s adopted. He made it. If you guys can adopt a dog, even if they don’t make it on the big screen, they’ll be big stars at your house,” said trainer Omar Van Muller.
