Outrageous fashion accessories? Check. Hit songs about drinking and partying? Check. Serious animal-rights activist. Check? Yep. Although she portrays herself as a lighthearted party girl in her music, it turns out that in real life, singer Ke$ha is a legit animal lover who puts her money where her mouth is.
In the last year alone, the singer has lent her celebrity to a number of animal-centric causes, from publicly supporting (and designing!) cruelty-free clothing, to openly denouncing circuses and teaming up with PETA to protest the Canadian seal hunts.
Now Ke$ha is once again speaking up for baby seals, and this time she’s working withHumane Society International. In the heartbreaking PSA, which depicts a club-wielding fisherman advancing on a baby seal, she says, “Every year, thousands of baby seals are clubbed to death by Canadian fishermen. You can help by pledging to boycott Canadian seafood.”
“Over the past six years, people like you, all over the world, have signed on to this boycott. Together, we can convince the Canadian government that it’s not in their best interest to continue to kill baby seals.”
As the first global ambassador for Humane Society International, Ke$ha is extremely committed to the cause. “I take this opportunity incredibly seriously because we are ALL animals,” she says. “One of the main underlying sentiments of my music is to respect all living creatures just as they are.”
