(CELEBRITY ANIMAL NEWS) There is a new member of the royal family and it’s not a bouncing baby, yet. Prince William and Duchess Kate have gotten a new puppy, a male black cocker spaniel. He was spotted earlier this month prancing around the feet of the royal couple while in Wales.

Palace sources say the adopted puppy is a few months old, and comes from a litter that has a close connection to the Middleton family. According to PEOPLE, the Middletons are known to fancy spaniels.

Cocker spaniels were originally bred as bird hunting dogs, but over the years have become show dogs. Perhaps there is a reason Kate was attracted to the breed. Just this December, she took a compassionate turn and opted out of the royal family’s annual Boxing Day pheasant hunt. Perhaps she’s trying to teach this pup that a compassionate, and cushioned, lifestyle is the way to go.

Congratulations to the royal couple on becoming the proud parents of a bouncing baby spaniel. The pup’s name has not been announced yet.
