(TURTLES/ANIMAL PICTURES/WILDLIFE) Turtles are amazing; capable of swimming very long distances and living extraordinarily long lives, these reptiles are loved and admired by many people. Some turtle fans are so passionate that they travel long distances to stay up all night on a beach lit only by the moon, so that they may witness the miraculous hatching of tiny sea turtles. In certain turtle habitats around the world, such as the US Virgin Islands, turtle nesting season is coming to a close and the hatching will soon begin! Celebrate this year’s upcoming hatching by enjoying these baby turtle photos. — Global Animal

Scientists Release Endangered Baby Sea Turtles
Scientists release Gulf of Mexico sea turtle hatchlings onto the beaches of Cape Canaveral, Florida, in a recent picture. Most of the released babies are loggerhead sea turtles, though some could also be Kemp’s ridley sea turtles, leatherback sea turtles, and green sea turtles, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service national sea turtle coordinator Sandy MacPherson said in a statement.
