Update: Tripoli Zoo Donations Put To Use

(ZOO ANIMAL NEWS) LIBYA — Over a month has passed since Global Animal Foundation sent $6,000 in donations to the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) to care for the Tripoli Zoo animals that were abandoned in August. Global Animal received news that these efforts helped to cover the cost of food and medicine for the animals during these past two months. IFAW continues to work with the Tripoli Zoo and is waiting to take the next steps in further helping these animals. — Global Animal

Gaddafi Treated His Animals Like People (Unfortunately)

(ANIMAL NEWS) Former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi had a personal animal farm where he kept over 500 ostriches, rare-breed camels, hybrid cattle, and several breeds of sheep and goats. This private compound west of Sirte covered thousand of kilometers and was abandoned when conflict erupted in August. All of these animals were left to die, suffering a similar fate to the abandoned animals in Lybia’s Tripoli Zoo. —Global Animal

ZANESVILLE, OHIO – In yet another case of animal versus man, animals lost big after a resident convicted of animal cruelty released a veritable zoo of 51 exotic animals and then shot himself.
