Is Pet Tracker The New Microchip?

(LOST PETS) Recent technology allows pet guardians to worry less about losing their animal companions. Tagg the Pet Tracker is a GPS device that allows humans to be aware of the location of their furry friends at all times. By strapping a portable attachment to a canine or large cat’s collar, animal lovers can identify the location of the animal anywhere in the United States that there is Verizon wireless coverage. While using Tagg, users can create a custom radius anywhere from 75 to 1,000 yards and will be notified through text or e-mail if the pet has wandered outside the designated ‘safe zone.’  The company claims, “Your microchip is not enough,” because if your pet is lost, a microchip won’t alert you or show you his/her exact location. If concerned persons need to find a dog or feline who has disappeared, they can find the animal’s location on the Tagg map and then use a computer, mobile phone, or the free Tagg app to more precisely determine their locale. Play With Shelter Cats For A Good Cause

Kong, the rubber dog-toy company, has installed robotic toys and cameras in certain shelters across the US so that people can control the toys over the internet and watch the cats play. The charitable campaign is designed to raise awareness about shelter cats. Hopefully potential pet-guardians will become tempted to play with the animals in real-life and adopt! — Global Animal

Dairy Farmers Profit From Kindness

(FARM TECHNOLOGY) Richard Conrad surprised the farming world last year when he shelled out $70,000 for cow water beds. The Conrad dairy farm believed that if you make cows more comfortable and happy they will produce more and better quality milk. Conrad has been very happy with the results and now other farmers are following suit with even quirkier methods to make the cows happy. Farmers are spending money on chiropractors and playing classical music all in an effort to please their bovine partners. This really seems to be a revolution in the farming industry, which usually disappoints with its cruel treatment of animals. It’s very heartening to see farmers who actually understand that milking cows is a partnership that requires both sides to be happy in order to yield the best results.— Global Animal

An App To Avoid Whale Traffic (VIDEO)

(WHALE PROTECTION) 15 years of research has resulted in a new, free app that will enable mariners to detect endangered right whales in their path, before a deadly collision. The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) has collaborated with other agencies to develop this new whale-tracking technology, including the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), US Coast Guard, University of New Hampshire, and Gaia GPS. Since right whales are often fatally wounded by passing ships, availability of the IFAW Whale Alert App could prevent future accidental injuries. Read on for details about how IFAW is using iTunes to track and protect right whales. — Global Animal
