Costa Rica Bans Shark Finning For Good

(SHARK FIN) COSTA RICA – On Wednesday, President Laura Chinchilla signed a presidential decree banning the practice of shark finning, in which the fins are sliced off live sharks who are then tossed back into the ocean to die. The executive order also bans the importation and transportation of shark fins to and from Costa Rica. Under existing legislation shark finning itself had been banned in Costa Rica, but under a new decree loopholes allowing the transport and import of shark fins have been closed, fully banning the shark fin trade. (CELEBRITY NEWS) LOS ANGELES— After long-time animal activist Bob Barker publicly denounced The Price is Right for giving away tickets to the Calgary Stampede in Canada, the TV show host of 35 years was not included on the guest list for the program’s 40th anniversary celebration. Without Barker’s influential presence on The Price is Right, the game show has deviated from its commitment to animal welfare, also giving away passes to SeaWorld, according to Entertainment Weekly. Paul Watson Red Listed By Interpol

(SEA SHEPHERD) Paul Watson, the Captain of Sea Shepherd, has been put on Interpol’s “Red Notice” for escaping Germany to avoid extradition to Costa Rica. Interpol’s “Red Notice” is something like an international arrest warrant, but because the notice is a bit vague it is up to each of the 190 member countries to decide whether they will arrest Watson. Sea Shepherd Delivers Message After Fleeing Germany

(SEA SHEPHERD) Captain Paul Watson contacted Sea Shepherd headquarters over the weekend from an undisclosed location requesting a personal message to be forwarded on to his supporters. Watson recently fled Germany and relinquished his bail after serving a 70 day house arrest after he way arrested in Frankfurt on a 2002 warrant from Costa Rica.
