Hope For Tigers?

(TIGERS) In the past ten years, the number of tigers living in the wild has decreased from 10,000 to an estimated 3,000. Duke University student Blake Bohlig warns that tigers are quickly approaching extinction despite conservation efforts and urges humans to “step it up.” With deforestation and poaching being the two main causes of the decline, Bohlig offers a seemingly simple solution to pay individuals to protect tigers rather than poach them in a means of supporting their families. New Dam Threatens Thailand’s Tigers

(TIGERS) THAILAND — A proposed dam in Thailand would flood almost eight miles of a national park where conservationists have been working to increase the wild tiger population. With fewer than 3,200 tigers remaining in the wild and only 300 in Thailand, it would be a shame to see them suffer more casualties at the hands of humans. Michael Jackson’s Tiger Dies Of Lung Cancer

(CELEBRITY PETS) CALIFORNIA — Thriller, Michael Jackson’s tiger while he was living at Neverland ranch, passed away of lung cancer on Wednesday. After Jackson left Neverland, the 13-year-old tiger went to actress Tipi Hedren’s wildlife preserve in California. While we don’t condone owning exotic animals, especially endangered ones, it’s good that Thiller was able to spend her last years in a sanctuary. — Global Animal

Poachers Fair Game In Indian State

(ANIMAL HUNTING) INDIA — Over the years, poachers have contributed to the devastation of animals populations across the world. In an effort to stop poaching, the government in Maharashtra is allowing forest guards to shoot hunters on sight. Moreover, the government says injuring or killing poachers will not be considered a crime. India is home to about half of the world’s tigers and the western state of Maharashtra has made a strong pledge to protect its wildlife. Tiger Poachers Caught Red-Handed

(TIGERS) BANGKOK — During an inspection led by Thai Nature Crime Police, a butchered tiger was found in what appeared to be a wildlife slaughterhouse with other exotic animals. With only 3,200 tigers thought to remain in the wild, the continued slaughter of these endangered animals will surely lead to their extinction in nature.
