ALASKA – Alaska recommended to the U.S.-Russia Polar Bear Commission to lift the ban on killing polar bears in Russia for the first time in 50 years.

In a disappointing action, the United Nations voted against limitations on fishing of bluefin tuna and decreased hunting of polar bears despite declining populations of both species.
