Not to mention, “The Daily Show” set has reportedly become “a dog nirvana,” with more than a dozen pups roaming the office on any given work day. (GLOBAL ANIMAL)—Arwen, a 10-year-old pit bull mix, was one of 89 dogs rescued from a hoarder in the Mojave Desert. Along with the others she was kept in poor outdoor conditions. During the cold winter season the dogs had no shelter, and barely any food or water. Karma Rescue, who also got other animal organizations involved, stepped in and began their tough work of relocating the dogs to safe homes. But everyone seemed to be especially touched by Arwen, who was so unsocialized and had so little interaction with humans that she had no idea how to respond to them. Arwen had almost no teeth because she chewed on the hoarder’s metal fence, and she had a very troubling eye condition brought on by the constant raw exposure to the rough weather. Alex, a volunteer, decided to foster Arwen until her health improved, but very quickly fell head over heels in love with the sweet dog, and decided to permanently adopt her. (SHELTER PETS) Approximately 200 pit bulls are put down every day in Los Angeles County due to lack of available homes for the adorable pooches. Hope, an orange and white pit bull, was abandoned at a Los Angeles shelter one week before she gave birth to nine puppies. Giving birth and nursing newborn pups at a shelter are stressful undertakings for new mothers, and Hope lost three of her babies during those first few days. (DOG RESCUE) After receiving an anonymous tip, investigators rescued 26 dogs from a Plant City, Florida home where it is evident dog fighting occurred. All of the pit bull terriers are currently at Hillsborough County Animal Services where vets are treating their injuries. (TOUCHING TALE) Scooter, the adorable pit bull that was used as a robbery dog, is now a breed ambassador. After her caretaker was arrested for robbery, in which he used Scooter as a weapon, she was taken to Multnomah County Animal Services where they searched for resources to rehabilitate her. Scooter was already very friendly to begin with, but the shelter wanted to make her adoption-ready so they enlisted Born Again Pit Bull Rescue (BAPBR) for help.
