Will Whale Wars See Its Next Season?

(WHALE WARS) It’s summertime in the Northern Hemisphere, and for the last five years, this has typically meant a new season of Animal Planet’s popular reality show, “Whale Wars.” This coming season, however, has been pushed back to fall, or possibly even early 2014. It will be the show’s sixth season on air, and will exhibit a new, exciting twist. Rather than an Animal Planet crew shooting on deck, it will stitch together episodes from footage the activists shot of themselves. Whale Wars End In Battle Royale

(OCEANS) Sea Shepherd alleges that two of its vessels were hit by a Japanese ship in Australian Antarctic waters. The incident occurred after the anti-whaling group was ordered to leave the area by a Japanese whaling boat. This lead to the use of “concussion grenades” and more severe vessel damage. Paul Watson, the founder of Sea Shepherd, says it is unlikely the whalers will resume their hunt this season. Read more to find out why the whale hunt might not continue. — Global Animal

Paul Watson Steps Down From Sea Shepherd

(ANIMAL ACTIVISM) Founder and president of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS), Paul Watson, has recently announced his resignation as President of the U.S. and Australia chapters as well as his command of the ship Steve Irwin and as campaign leader for Operation Zero Tolerance. In compliance with a court ruling to temporarily block the SSCS from attacking whalers or coming within 450 metres of their ships in the Antarctic, Watson has now taken on the role as an “observer,” working behind the scenes for the anti-poaching organization. With Watson removing himself and the U.S. chapter named specifically in the ruling, the anti-whaling organization’s other international chapters are free to move forward with their conservation efforts.
