Manatee Rider Surrenders

(WILDLIFE CONSERVATION) Ana Gloria Garcia Gutierrez turned herself in just hours after authorities released photographs of her riding on the back of a manatee in waters off of Fort De Soto, Florida. New to the St. Petersburg area, Gutierrez admitted to her crime, claiming to not be at fault as she was unaware that any touching of manatees is illegal in the state of Florida.  — Global Animal

Sumatran Elephants Swarm Village

(ELEPHANTS) INDONESIA — About 20 endangered Sumatran elephants entered Braja Indah village in Lampung, Indonesia yesterday in search of food.  The villagers have been using torches and firecrackers in an attempt to herd the elephants away. Global Animal Visits Animal Acres (GALLERY)

(ANIMAL HUMAN FRIENDSHIP/GALLERY) Global Animal recently visited Animal Acres Farm Sanctuary in Acton, CA where we were able to meet and greet the numerous farm animals and learn about their plight. Having locations in New York, Northern California, and Los Angeles, Farm Sanctuary is currently the nation’s largest and most effective farm animal rescue and protection organization. The Southern California shelter in itself is 26 acres and houses more than 100 farm animals. The sanctuary works to protect animals from the abuses of factory farming and encourages a new awareness in the way society views and treats farm animals.
