Sanctuary Animals Safe From Colorado Wildfires

(ANIMAL WELFARE) Yesterday, at least four wind-whipped wildfires burned along the front of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, damaging a large number of homes and forcing people and animals alike to evacuate the area. One animal sanctuary was directly threatened by the blaze and had to relocate all of the animals from its farm. The Black Forest Animal Sanctuary had to move 80 dogs, 20 cats, some horses, and perhaps other animals in a very short period of time. Keep reading for more on the Black Forest Sanctuary animals and for helpful information in regard to the Colorado wildfires. — Global Animal

DONATE: Help Animals Affected By Oklahoma Tornado

(ANIMAL RESCUE) In the wake of one of the deadliest tornadoes in U.S. history, Oklahoma residents are desperately trying to reach loved ones and find missing pets, livestock, and other animals. Although the storm missed areas with larger ranches, several smaller ranches were devastated. And while one woman’s happy reunion with her dog has touched hearts nationwide, many animals remain stranded. Many agencies are lending their services and stepping up to help out however they can—whether by bringing in search dogs, collecting food for animals, or reuniting families with their four-legged loved ones. Global Animal is collecting donations for vetted animal rescue organizations working on the ground to help with medical costs for injured animals, boarding and food, as well as helping reunite pets with their families. — Global Animal

Russia’s Horse Meat Following

(HORSES) MOSCOW — Amidst the widening debate involving the slaughter and human consumption of horse meat in the UK and abroad, an Italian chef named Valentino Bontempi focuses his anger toward the use of horse meat in a somewhat controversial manner. His outrage is not that of humane concern for horses, but rather a callous interest in the way horse meat is prepared by Russian chefs throughout chain restaurants in Moscow. “Russians,” he said rather insensitively, “have no clue about cooking horse and could be enjoying it so much more.” Read the New York Times article below to uncover the apathetic side of the horse meat scandal with interviewees who consider the consumption of horse meat to be a healthy, tasty option. — Global Animal
