Haute Couture Or Cruelty?

(ANIMAL CRUELTY) Although anti-fur campaigns have helped shed light on the cruelty of the fur trade, there has been a recent surge in fur sales. Because high fashion labels are incorporating more fur in their designs and many celebrities are shown wearing it, the global sale of fur has increased by ”70 percent to around $15 billion in the past decade,” according to Mark Oaten, the CEO of the International Fur Trade Federation. The truth behind this unfortunate trend is very disturbing as animals on fur farms are forced to live in cramped conditions—often resulting in insanity—and are brutally killed by being bludgeoned, electrocuted, or skinned alive. Fortunately, many great designers like Stella McCartney, Vivienne Westwood, and Calvin Klein are choosing to stay fur–free with compassionate couture. Ke$ha Ruffles Some Feathers

(CELEBRITY NEWS) American pop star Ke$ha is best known for her careless party girl image, but for a while now, the “Tik Tok” singer has been making a name for herself as an animal rights activist. Last year, the glitter-loving star urged fans to boycott Canadian seafood in order to help put an end to seal clubbing. She also wrote an open letter advocating for an international ban on cosmetic animal testing. On March 23, she will receive the distinguished Wyler award from the HSUS, which was previously given to Sir Paul McCartney, Hayden Panettiere, and other celebrity animal advocates. But many animal lovers are angered by the Humane Society’s decision to award Ke$ha given her questionable past of wearing feathers and fur, as well as her offhand remarks regarding owning wild animals. Read on to find out why Ke$ha might not be the best candidate for this award — Global Animal

India’s Leopards Killed By The Week

(POACHING) INDIA — A report conducted by the World Wide Fund for Nature last month revealed that at least four leopards are killed every week in India, skinned for their fur or even mauled for their bones. Already, humans have recently been posing as a major threat to these endangered animals through exhausting the abundance of forests’ resources. While these leopards’ habitats have been wrecked, the population of their prey – unable to survive without the goods of the forest – have simultaneously decreased. Leopards are suffering in more ways than one at the hands of humans. — Global Animal

Juicy Couture Founders Support Fur In Fashion

(TAKE ACTION) The Skaist Taylor’s founders, who previously owned Juicy Couture, are officially no longer fur-free.  The duo will be releasing a fall line that promotes real fur, and consumers are feeling the heat as they must decide whether or not to continue buying these products that now support animal abuse. While many people are under the false impression that animals are left unharmed when skinned for their fur, this is not the case at all.
