Dog’s Tear-Jerking Tale Transforms Autistic Boy (GALLERY)

(DOG PICTURES) Relationships between pets and companions are some of the strongest ones we can have. In the case of Xena, a Staffordshire terrier/pit bull mix, and Jonny Hickey, the bond between pet and human also serves as an effective therapy. Jonny, an 8-year-old boy diagnosed with autism, would seldom speak, and often isolated himself from others, until Xena came into his life. Since their new found friendship Jonny has completely changed his demeanor, and has become exponentially expressive. His mother told the Today Show, “He is the happiest child that I’ve ever seen him be in eight years.” Xena also benefits from this relationship. Abandoned at a young age, Xena’s journey has lead her to a loving family and a new best friend. Their tale shows the power of human-animal relationships. Here’s a glimpse of their story. — Global Animal

This touching tale illustrates just how powerful animal bonds can be. In celebration of Kitty, here is a gallery of our cuddly animal friends. — Global Animal

Animals Touchdown In Top Super Bowl Ads

(CULTURE) It comes as no surprise that animals dominated Super Bowl commercials yet again this year. With a Budweiser commercial that made everyone’s hearts melt to perhaps a hilarious Doritos commercial starring a snack-loving goat, the Baltimore Ravens weren’t the only animals winning this past weekend. Being the first Super Bowl to take place since all of the top 10 advertising agencies in the U.S. agreed not to use great apes in their ads, not one of this year’s commercials featured chimpanzees or other great apes. In addition, many commercials used computer-generated imagery CGI to portray other exotic animals. Here are just a few of this year’s favorites. — Global Animal

Dog Adopts Abandoned Kitten

(ANIMAL FRIENDSHIP) Yet another headlining case of an unexpected animal friendship recently surfaced in Jordan, Minnesota when a family discovered a kitten alone in their barn for whom they had little hope for survival. The family brought the young feline—now named Bootsie— into their home, and before long, their Pekingese dog, Mittens, began affectionately licking and nudging the kitten, until ultimately lying down beside him. After three days, 4-year-old Mittens, who had not been pregnant in two years, developed milk for the feeble kitten and nursed Bootsie back to health. — Global Animal
