(ANIMAL NEWS) TRINIDAD — In an area where tourists flock to admire the incalcuable amount of endangered leatherback turtles laying their eggs, you would think that Trinidad government officials would make the turtles a first priority. This, unfortunately, was not the case this weekend, when thousands of the leatherback eggs and hatchlings were reportedly crushed by heavy machinery in an effort to redirect a river. The event is devastating for the many local conservationists and turtle advocates who work hard to save this endangered species.
