Dogs Master Moscow’s Subway (PHOTO GALLERY)

RUSSIA (ANIMAL INTELLIGENCE) In Moscow, 35,000 stray dogs actively use the subway to move around the Russian city. With few means of survival, Moscow’s stray dogs have hit the streets – and the transit system – in search of sustenance. In addition to occupying subway lines, these dogs have also developed personalized techniques to cajole food from their human neighbors. A cute puppy may try to extract food through friendship while a huskier dog might startle an unsuspecting traveler who will hopefully fumble his or her lunch. While some are lobbying to clear the strays from public spaces, many Russian passengers accept the dogs as fellow travelers and voluntarily offer food. As Russian society has evolved over the years, its canine residents have cleverly adapted, too. Check out the photo gallery below of Moscow’s dogs on the subway. And catch the quick video at the bottom of the dog who perks up to get off at the right subway station!  — Global Animal

Missouri is the puppy mill capital

City Of Angels Bans Puppy Mills

(ANIMAL NEWS) For those who’ve been following the story of Los Angeles’ attempt to ban puppy mills — rejoice! The motion to draft a law banning the mills was approved, including a few compassionate bonus features. The Los Angeles city council seeks not only to put an end to puppy mills, but create more opportunities for families to adopt shelter animals. The puppy mills, institutionalized breeding facilities that promote inbreeding and animal cruelty, take advantage of both people and animals. The new law will, if properly enforced, truly make the city of angels a heavenly place for pets and the people who love them. — Global Animal

Or, do dogs in dreamland imagine streets lined with treats? This provocative pet question even prompted the creation of “Stu’s Song” in The Hangover, that asks, “What do tigers dream of?” We have the answers — read on to find out. — Global Animal
