(ANIMAL RESCUE) SOUTH CAROLINA — The Humane Society of the United States’ anti-cruelty team paired with the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office to rescue over 200 dogs, horses, and birds from a mass breeding facility in South Carolina. After concerned neighbors contacted the HSUS, a warranted investigation proved that online seller Calabel’s Designer Dogs was a guise for an abusive puppy mill. Dogs were found living in awful conditions and without basic necessities. Since Edgefield County does not have the resources to care for the large number of inhumanely treated animals, the local humane society sent helpers to the scene and the HSUS has set up an emergency shelter. Laws against puppy mills are too weak to prevent the long term existence of these mass breeding facilities and the HSUS is urging the Obama administration to regulate online sellers. (HEROIC PETS) A dog lost his life last Thursday when he pulled his guardian out of the way of an oncoming train. According to Russian news site Ria Novosti, the 48-year old man sought to end his life by drinking a bottle of vodka and falling asleep on train tracks in the city of Karaganda. Aida Muldashevan, an investigator with the local transport police department, said, ”Upon seeing the train, the dog started pulling its owner away. When train drivers saw the dog on the rail tracks, they used the emergency brake.” But it was too late. — Global Animal
(WORKING DOGS) A murder investigation is underway after a dog named Lucky delivered a human foot to his front porch in Newberry Springs, a small unincorporated town, 130 miles outside of Los Angeles. His guardian, Erica, immediately contacted the San Bernardino County Sherriff’s Department on Sunday evening and reported Lucky’s findings of a human foot with the leg bone still attached. — Global Animal
