In Bakersfield, CA 180 dogs, seven cats, and one pig were rescued in January from an animal rescuer turned animal hoarder. Volunteers and the HSUS have been working around the clock to rehabilitate and adopt these sweet animals, but time is running out. Around 70 animals are left ready for adoption, and the rescue group The Dog Spot only has until February 8, 2012 to get all the dogs out of the Kern County Fairgrounds.

(ANIMAL NEWS) Last week PetSmart Charities announced that they will be funding a $1 million dollar grant program to help reduce the number of pit bulls in shelters. Two animal clinics in Virginia will get the funding and will use it for spay-neuter surgeries for cats and pit bulls, the most common animals found in shelters.
