UK Celebrities Call To Ban Circus Cruelty

(CELEBRITIES/CIRCUS ANIMALS) A number of celebrities, Moby and famous comedian Eddie Izzard, and politicians in the UK are uniting with Animal Defenders International (ADI) to help put an end to the use of wild animals in the circus. Prime Minister David Cameron has delayed the wild animal circus ban, which has caused circus acts in the UK to add wild cats to their venues. The bill was first discussed last March, and if the Prime Minister does not act soon they miss the implementation date of December 2015 may be missed. NYCLASS Aims To Ban City Circuses

Elephants Escape From Indian Circuses

(ELEPHANTS/CIRCUS ANIMALS) INDIA — The Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) recently announced their decision to end the registration of elephants for performances. Following a nine-month-long investigation of the country’s circuses that revealed widespread animal cruelty, the AWBI is finally putting an end to the elephants’ suffering. The decision was made at the AWBI’s general meeting in August after an authorized investigation took place. The minutes of the meeting were just released to the public. The movie features a chimpanzee actor named Chance, who has been stuck in a life of travel and confinement, performing for a traveling circus. What’s more, undercover video footage reveals evidence of animal abuse occurring behind the camera on movie sets like Zookeeper and Water for Elephants, despite the fact that both films received the American Humane Association (AHA) stamp of approval. LA Bullhook Ban Beats Circus Cruelty

(CIRCUS ANIMALS/ ACTIVISM) On Wednesday, the city of Los Angeles dealt a crucial blow to circuses in the area, effectively banning bullhooks, and saving elephants a tremendous deal of pain in the process. After a three-year pursuit of the ban, the Los Angeles City Council voted to forbid the weapon after seeing undercover footage of elephants brutally beaten with bullhooks.
