Mrs Blake Shelton already has five dogs in her family, but she also makes sure to open her house to foster animals. The “Gunpowder & Lead” singer told People magazine, “Every time I find one [dog], we keep ‘em until we can find them the right home. You kind of know what dog fits with your family. We keep ‘em until we find a family they fit with.” The star also admitted that husband Blake Shelton was a little baffled with her animal loving ways at first, but that he is used to it now. In addition, millions more are abandoned, only to suffer from illness or injury before their untimely death. However, many are fighting to change these statistics. One is photographer Frank Bruynbroek, who dedicated 15 years of his life into the creation of Compawssion: Portraits of Rescued Dogs. (CELEBRITY PETS) After the passing of their two dogs roughly three weeks ago, Academy Award winner Melanie Griffith and her husband, actor Antonio Banderas, sought to honor the late pups by opening their home to two rescue dogs from one of their favorite Los Angeles-based shelters. The couple adopted two Shepherd/Labrador-mixed siblings—a brother and a sister—from the Ace of Hearts shelter in Beverly Hills, which is dedicated to rescuing dogs the day they are to be euthanized from various Los Angeles shelters. Griffith and Banderas appear to have a history with the organizationand are strong supporters of adopting rescue pets. (ANIMAL NEWS) On Sunday, country star Mindy McCready was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The 37-year-old singer was battling substance abuse issues for several years, and her mental state became even more unstable after the father of her youngest child, David Wilson, committed suicide in January. Before the troubled star took her own life, she sadly also shot the family dog. McCready spoke to Dateline NBC about the fact that the dog actually discovered the bullet that killed Wilson.
