Life of Pi: Animal Friendly Or Not?

(ANIMAL ACTORS) Ang Lee’s successful 3D adventure film, Life of Pi, was nominated in eleven categories at the 85th Academy Awards and won more than any other film, including Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects and Best Original Score. Earning $583 million worldwide, the international hit chronicles the story of a boy who survives a shipwreck, only to be stranded on a boat with a Bengali Tiger. But as always, when it comes to movies involving real animals, concerns of safety come into question. Although the movie’s main animal character, Richard Parker, is mostly CGI, four live tigers were used to film single shots. Michael Jackson’s Tiger Dies Of Lung Cancer

(CELEBRITY PETS) CALIFORNIA — Thriller, Michael Jackson’s tiger while he was living at Neverland ranch, passed away of lung cancer on Wednesday. After Jackson left Neverland, the 13-year-old tiger went to actress Tipi Hedren’s wildlife preserve in California. While we don’t condone owning exotic animals, especially endangered ones, it’s good that Thiller was able to spend her last years in a sanctuary. — Global Animal

UPDATE: Ohio Releases Exotic Animals To Widow

(ANIMAL NEWS) OHIO — Two leopards, two primates, and a bear that survived the Ohio exotic animal massacre are being returned to the wife of the man who released them. In October, Terry Thompson released 56 animals from his farm before committing suicide. Ohio Animal Massacre Avoidable

Much has been written about the 55 domesticated wild animals that were killed yesterday after  ‘animal lover’ Terry Thompson let loose his extensive collection of tigers, lions, bears, leopards, wolves, and monkeys – after which, he took his own life..
