Deadly Mistake For Bear Expert

(ANIMAL ATTACK) IDAHO — John Wallace found himself in a deadly situation with a bear when he went against campground warnings in Yellowstone National Park. His death was extremely unfortunate, and preventable. The bear hasn’t been identified, but park rangers found a mother bear with cubs consuming his remains. As a precautionary measure, the mother was euthanized while her cubs were sent to a sanctuary. New Face For Polar Bear Day

(ENDANGERED SPECIES) February 27 is International Polar Bear Day. In celebration, animal lovers worldwide can watch the daily activities of Siku, the 3-month-old polar bear cub. The live webcam will stream for two hours every day from 9:00-11:00 EST while Siku plays by a pond in Denmark’s Scandinavian Wildlife Park. The cub has been dubbed the “ambassador for polar bears,” and was chosen to raise awareness about the decline in sea ice. The bears hunt on the ice, and as it is lost, so are their opportunities to find food.  — Global Animal

Bear Tranquilized With Three Darts

(ANIMAL NEWS) WASHINGTON — Wildlife agents have sedated and captured a black bear who was exploring the suburbia of  Washington for the past week. After a recent bear attack nearby, cautious residents of Lakewood phoned the police to report seeing a bear. It took three tranquilizer darts to puncture the fat layer on the 4-year-old male. Orphaned Grizzly Cubs Find New Home
