Haute Couture Or Cruelty?

(ANIMAL CRUELTY) Although anti-fur campaigns have helped shed light on the cruelty of the fur trade, there has been a recent surge in fur sales. Because high fashion labels are incorporating more fur in their designs and many celebrities are shown wearing it, the global sale of fur has increased by ”70 percent to around $15 billion in the past decade,” according to Mark Oaten, the CEO of the International Fur Trade Federation. The truth behind this unfortunate trend is very disturbing as animals on fur farms are forced to live in cramped conditions—often resulting in insanity—and are brutally killed by being bludgeoned, electrocuted, or skinned alive. Fortunately, many great designers like Stella McCartney, Vivienne Westwood, and Calvin Klein are choosing to stay fur–free with compassionate couture. Woody Harrelson Chooses Faux In New Anti-Fur Video

(ANIMAL ACTIVISM) In an innovative new anti-fur video The Humane Society of the United States teams up with Woody Harrelson to cleverly persuade viewers of why they should choose faux instead of real fur. The video, narrated by Harrelson, is perfect for those who are squeamish or who can’t bear to watch animal suffering, as it uses a prop instead of real graphic footage. But even without the gory details the video conveys the cruelty and irrationality of the fur trade very clearly. Read on to see the cool video. — Global Animal

Boycott The Olsen Twins Cruel Croc Backpack

(TAKE ACTION) The Olsen twins—or the “Trollsens” as PETA calls them—are at it again. Once America’s sweethearts, the fur-toting has-beens are onto their next cruel creation: a $55,000 backpack made of black patent leather from Nile crocodiles. However, this isn’t the first animal to die for their fashion collection, The Row—or what is often referred to as their “Full House of Horrors.” Last year, Mary-Kate and Ashley created a $39,000 alligator handbag for their line, and in June, they released a $17,000 patchwork fur backpack. Kim Kardashian Bombed For Her Lack Of Compassion

(CELEBRITY/ANIMAL NEWS) Kim Kardashian was flour bombed over the weekend at an event promoting her new perfume line. The woman behind the flour is an animal activist who believes Kim is a “fur hag.” Although Kardashian stated that she would not press charges against the woman, she has apparently changed her mind because she doesn’t support “violence” and “bullying.” Unfortunately it’s hard to feel bad for the violence Kim experienced this weekend, when the animals whose fur she so often chooses to wear encounter extreme violence as they’re robbed of what naturally belongs to them. Animals on some fur farms are literally skinned alive. They are also often killed by brutal methods such as electrocution, poison, gas, and suffocation. When you condone such violence by wearing animal fur, it is not surprising that it leads to drastic actions by those who cherish animals and refuse to allow animal suffering to go unnoticed. — Global Animal

PETA Ad Targets Kim Kardashian

(PETA AD/Kim Kardashian) When will Kim learn? After supporting PETA’s no-fur campaign back in 2008, Kim Kardashian continues to wear fur. Well, PETA has recently launched an ad lambasting their once supporter for her flip-flop. Wearing an animal is not fashionable — WeHo got the message by banning the sale of fur, when will Kim understand that nature, not the celebrity, makes animals beautiful? — Global Animal
