Tropical Butterfly Found In Canada

(ANIMAL DISCOVERY) CANADA —  The giant swallowtail butterfly, indigenous to Central and South America, was found in Montreal, Quebec. The butterfly was found in the cities botanical garden and is thought to be a result of North America’s climate slowly becoming warmer. New Face For Polar Bear Day

(ENDANGERED SPECIES) February 27 is International Polar Bear Day. In celebration, animal lovers worldwide can watch the daily activities of Siku, the 3-month-old polar bear cub. The live webcam will stream for two hours every day from 9:00-11:00 EST while Siku plays by a pond in Denmark’s Scandinavian Wildlife Park. The cub has been dubbed the “ambassador for polar bears,” and was chosen to raise awareness about the decline in sea ice. The bears hunt on the ice, and as it is lost, so are their opportunities to find food.  — Global Animal

Polar Bears Forced To Swim Deadly Distances

(ENDANGERED ANIMALS) As ice melts in the Arctic sea, polar bears are forced to risk their lives travelling farther distances in search of food and stable habitats. Many of the bears drown, especially cubs. Research conducted by members of WWF’s Arctic Program and the U.S. Geological Survey’s Alaska Science Center reveals an increase in both long-distance swimming by polar bears and polar bear cub drownings associated with climate change and global warming. — Global Animal
