Green Sea Turtle Lays Egg Breaking Record

(SEA TURTLES) PHILIPPINES — A record-breaking 1.44 million eggs were laid at nesting sites inside the protected area of Baguan Island in 2011, making it a great year for the endangered green sea turtle. Turtle conservationists have teamed up with local law enforcement to protect nests that are commonly disturbed by poaching, foreign fishermen, and egg harvesting by local communities for food and trade. The high number off eggs laid provide a promising future for this species of sea turtle, and their population should stabilize if continued watch is kept over the nests. Check out the full story below to see what scientists are predicting for this rebounding population. — Global Animal
