Supreme Court Rules In Favor Of Cruelty

(ANIMAL NEWS) CALIFORNIA — The Supreme Court ruled that a law requiring humane treatment of downed livestock violates the Federal Meat Inspection Act. Netherlands Saves Orphaned Baby Seals

(ANIMAL NEWS) NETHERLANDS — Hundreds of baby seals have been orphaned in the Netherlands due to storms and high tides. The babies, some still with their umbilical cords attached, are now cared for by the Seal Rehabilitation and Research Center near the city of Groningen. The seal pups are expected to be released back into the wild as soon as they’ve regained their strength. Kitty Condos Provide New York Homeless Cats Shelter

(ANIMAL SHELTER) Winter months are difficult for stray cats roaming the streets of New York. Leslie Farrell is an architect who has decided to take the matter into her own hands and build small shelters for these homeless felines to curl up in at night. This is how Architect for Animals came to life, an organization that initiates fundraising by hosting a one-night event known as Giving Shelter, which in turn benefits the Mayor’s Alliance For NYC’s Animals. The event displays the creative outdoor designs built by Architects for the city’s strays. Money is then donated to be put into use by the caregivers of NYC Feral Cat Initiative. Rehab For Orphaned Rhinos

(RHINOCEROS) SOUTH AFRICA — In response to the dramatic increase in poaching, rhino rehabilitation expert Karen Trendler developed The Orphaned Rhino Response Project to rehabilitate rhino calves whose mothers were killed by poachers. A team of trained rescuers rush to the scene after  reported cases of poaching to provide medical care for any calves left behind. After initial treatment the rhinos are transported to the rehab facility and prepared for release into the wild. 128 Dogs, 1 Cat Rescued From Back Of U-Haul Truck

When Tennessee police pulled over Bonnie Sheehan and Pamela A. King-McCracken’s moving vans Tuesday and smelled something rank, they expected to find drugs. Instead they found 130 animals, some crammed 5 to a crate, being transported without food, water, or ventilation. Further investigation showed that these two women were moving Sheehan’s dog rescue organization—”Hearts for Hounds”—from Long Beach, California, to Virginia, authorities say. The 129 dogs and 1 cat had been without food or water in this tiny space filled with excrement since Saturday, January 14.

Four Tigers Butchered To Be Decorations (TAKE ACTION)

(EXOTIC ANIMAL SMUGGLING) THAILAND — Four tigers were slaughtered recently for their skins, skulls, and bones for alleged interior decorating projects, and the parts were confiscated en route to China by Thai postal customs in Bangkok. These murders were committed by an unknown gang trafficking group, and they still remain unpunished. The inhumane practice of poaching wild tigers is aiding to their vastly decreasing numbers, and currently worldwide only 3,200 exist in their natural habitat. Action must be taken to preserve these majestic creatures in the wild and bring the killers to justice.
