Photos Capture Animal Abuse In New Light

(PHOTO GALLERY) There are countless studies that prove animals are intelligent, express emotion and feel pain. There is also a direct correlation between animal abuse, domestic violence and other crimes. Yet animal abusers still go largely unpunished. Photographer Nicolas Wickstrom attempts to take us into the dark world of animal cruelty by substituting people in situations that involve the mistreatment of animals. Wickstrom explains his focus, “I aimed at inspiring more people to see the horrendous nature of what was going on and feel urged to do something, anything, to fix it.” Check out his photos. — Global Animal

Pamela Anderson Against Animal Testing For Tobacco

(ANIMAL TESTING) Pamela Anderson is taking a stand against the FDA’s recommendation to test tobacco products on animals. Tobacco companies will often make rats breathe tobacco smoke for up to six hours a day for months on end, then kill them to study the damage on their bodies. The FDA’s recommendation is highly misguided as rats don’t contract the same diseases as humans, and the tobacco companies have used the findings from animal testing to mislead the public and deny the link between smoking and cancer. Rescued Lab Chimp Loves Camera (VIDEO)

(TOUCHING TALE/ANIMAL TESTING) After spending the last couple decades of her life at a biomedical lab, Foxie the chimp is now free. While confined she was bred to have five babies, all of which were taken from her during infancy. So once she arrived at Chimp Sanctuary Northwest, she adopted a little bald troll doll to love and care for in place of her children. She recently showed her appreciation for her new home by placing a big sloppy kiss on the hidden camera in her habitat. Read on for more on Foxie and how to free other chimps from the misery of animal testing.  — Global Animal

United Airline’s Skies Not So Friendly

(TAKE ACTION) Primates used for animal testing are often ripped out of their homes in the wild, separated from their families, and locked in dark cargo crates for up to 30 hours while flying to the labs they will be experimented on until their dying day. Apart from working to end animal testing all together, PETA has been protesting at the Chicago headquarters of United Airlines, the last airline in the U.S. that doesn’t prohibit transporting primates to laboratories. For more information and to urge airlines to stop aiding in animal cruelty, click the “Take Action” link below. — Global Animal

Lush Launches War On Animal Testing

(ANIMAL NEWS) LONDON— Jacqueline Traide is one brave woman who let a fake laboratory researcher choke, force feed, shave, and all around mistreat her, for 10 hours in front of hundreds of people. The scene took place in a window display as passersby on one of London’s busiest streets looked on horrified. The shocking display was all in the name of putting an end to the cruel practice of animal testing. Jacqueline agreed to be a volunteer for Lush Cosmetics to help in the campaign to finally end animal testing. The suffering she went through reflects the suffering hundreds of animals go through in laboratories everyday for the sake of lipstick or mascara. To make a difference only buy products from companies that don’t test on animals, and boycott those that do. Read on to learn more about the protest and to view the graphic video and pictures.—Global Animal
