Westminster Dog Show Poisoning

(DOG SHOWS) There has been much speculation lately over whether a prized pet was deliberately poisoned while competing at the Westminster Kennel Club show earlier this month. Lynette Blue, the dog’s guardian, believes her 3-year-old prizewinning Samoyed named Cruz swallowed poison while at the show in Lakewood, Colorado, as his symptoms were consistent with dogs who ingest rat or mouse poison. And while the cause of death still remains unclear, Cruz’s handler, Robert Chaffin, believes extreme animal rights activists may have been to blame. But PETA co-founder and president Ingrid Newkirk said “it makes no sense whatsoever” that an animal rights activist would ever harm an animal. Others speculate jealousy between competitors could be the culprit. On the other hand, questions have also been raised regarding dogs shows in general, and particularly the American Kennel Club’s involvement (i.e. it will not permit neutered or spayed dogs in shows, but a debarked animal is allowed). An AKC-Registered Dog Means Less Than You Think

(DOG BREEDS) The American Kennel Club (AKC) has always portrayed themselves as an elite organization of people and purebred dogs based off the integrity of their registry, but the truth is a little different. Facts show that many AKC-registered dogs are born in puppy mills. A huge chunk of the money that finances the American Kennel Club, and an unbelievable number of dogs come from commercial puppy mill breeders. — Global Animal
