(POLICE DOGS) Dusty, a Washington state drug-sniffing dog, won’t nark you out for just a little herb. In November 2012, the state’s laws changed in support of marijuana legalization, and subsequently, the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission began training their canines to ignore the scent of marijuana, and instead focus their efforts on busting those in possession of dangerous narcotics. Heroic Pit Bull Fends Off Flames

Last Friday, Bonasera’s home erupted in flames while she was drying her hair upstairs, when Cain, a usually quiet dog, started barking. His bark prompted Bonasera to investigate downstairs, where she discovered that the area around her garage had gone up in flames. Blind Dog Paints For Animals In Need

(TOUCHING TALE) Upon learning her beloved pooch Hallie had suddenly gone blind from an autoimmune disease, DeeDee Murray went through great lengths to help save her pet’s vision—but sadly, to no avail. But when it seemed as though all hope was lost, this dog lover eventually transformed her rescued dachshund’s interesting talent into a great opportunity. Before Hallie’s rapid onset of blindness, this local Seattle painter effortlessly taught Hallie the painting trade. Now, the two are using Hallie’s artwork to help other animals in need. Hallie’s paintings are available for purchase online, where all profits are sent to Purple Heart Rescue, a dog rescue charity. Cats Of YouTube Host Art Festival (VIDEOS)

(ANIMAL VIDEOS) Put your paws together for your favorite kitty! Thursday marked the first year of the Internet Cat Video Film Festival at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, screening the best of the best feline-themed videos. An estimated 10,000 cat lovers and fans showed up to support the contestants, who ranged from internet sensation Maru and his infatuation with cardboard boxes, to Snooky the ticking tabby. The museum showed 79 videos in 75 videos, but only one cat would triumph. It was the existential Henri, le Chat Noir, who took home this year’s Golden Kitty Award.
